Under a fast-track design/build contract, the project team recycled an older facility and added state-of-the-art green features to create this Class A office building. One of South Florida’s first corporate headquarters to achieve LEED certification, the energy efficient, environmentally friendly facility added new features that enhanced air quality and energy efficiency. The project incorporated 7,000 square feet of roof-top solar panels that supply an estimated 9% of the power. The building has more than 40 skylights and large exterior windows to maximize daylight throughout the office space. A sophisticated dimming system for the building’s light fixtures responds to natural light conditions. A 30,000-gallon underground cistern was installed to collect rainwater used for watering the landscape and flushing toilets.

This entire project focused around recycling and increasing energy efficiency. Other green features include high-efficiency air conditioning and air handling units, including filters to ensure clean indoor air quality, reflective panels to reduce heat on the roof and reflective glaze on windows, increased insulation to keep the building cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and high recycled content of building materials.
