MCC Project Wins CASF Project of the Year

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Miller Construction Company’s complete interior and exterior renovation of a 93,955-square-foot flex facility within the Newport Center business park in Deerfield Beach won the top honor – the Overall Craftsmanship Performed on a Commercial Project Award — in the Construction Association of South Florida’s (CASF) 58th annual Craftsmanship Awards.

Dozens of entries were judged by teams of architects, engineers and general contractors. As the overall winner, Miller’s project transformed an aging, two-story building into an innovative U.S. office/production/distribution facility for an international company. The project reconfigured manufacturing and warehouse space to enhance workflow. The phased project designed by FSMY architects included constructing a complex roof structure, expanding a concrete mezzanine, and creating an 8,000-squre-foot social area with employee gym, cafeteria and full kitchen, plus men’s and women’s shower/locker rooms and restrooms. Stretch ceilings with LED lighting above a layer of stretched, translucent vinyl ensure bright yet soft lighting, and interior glass partitions give workspaces an open feel.

In addition to the award as the year’s top project in South Florida, which Miller Construction Company also won in 2015, the Craftsmanship Awards event this week in Fort Lauderdale honored 51 individual craftsmen for work on a wide range of commercial projects, from Homestead to Jupiter.

“Every aspect of the fully redesigned space reflects our client’s focus on quality and the desire to create an environment for its employees’ wellbeing,” said Miller Sr. Vice President Brian Sudduth. “It’s great to see the spotlight on individual craftsmen who helped us bring that vision to life.”

These craftsmen on Miller’s team for the Deerfield Beach project received individual awards:

•             Lico Payan – drywall/ACT

•             Hector Maldonado — glass and glazing

•             Gustavo Rubio — ceiling

•             Dominique Bachelet — ceiling/stretch fabric

•             Brad Eckman – flooring/carpet
