Miller Transforming Omni Mall As Mixed-Use Office/Retail Center
MIAMI, Fla., November 5, 2008 – Miller Construction Company is managing the complex transformation of a Miami landmark, with Phase One renovations proceeding on schedule at the former Omni International Mall.
Miller began the modernization project for developer Argent Ventures in fall 2007 and is scheduled to complete the initial phase in March, 2008, according to Miller Construction Company CEO Tom Miller.
The firm is converting the top four floors of the Omni structure into 320,000 square feet of Class A office space. The Miami International University of Art and Design, which is located on the ground floor, remains fully operational during the construction.
“This is a key piece in the revitalization of the downtown Miami area,” said developer Mark Teitelbaum, Argent Ventures. “Once completed, there will be nothing like it in Miami.” According to Teitelbaum, Argent also plans to team with Miller for a second renovation phase, which will include a 300,000-square-foot retail “shell” package suitable for national and regional retailers on the north side of the mixed-use complex. The City of Miami has approved a site plan for that phase, which includes adding a fourth story to the building and parking deck.
In 2002, Argent Ventures engaged Miller Construction Company to make structural enhancements throughout the Omni complex so it could be marketed as a secure telecommunications facility. While that plan was later revised in keeping with changing market conditions, Miller completed the tenant improvements for the art institute.
“Argent Ventures does business based on trust and strong relationships,” said Teitelbaum. “We appreciate our relationship with Miller’s team.”
