Miller Construction Company Building
New WPLG (Channel 10) Facility in Pembroke Park
Studios and Satellite Tower Will Feature Latest Digital Technology
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 20, 2008 - Miller Construction Company is building a new, state-of-the-art digital broadcast facility in Pembroke Park for WPLG TV (Channel 10), ABC's South Florida television network affiliate..
WPLG's new 71,600-square-foot two-story facility on Hallandale Beach Boulevard will include two studios, a satellite tower, office and administrative and data storage areas, according to Tom Miller, CEO of the Fort Lauderdale-based construction services company.
"This mission-critical project for Channel 10 includes a hardened exterior and multiple layers of redundant electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems designed to allow continued operation in the event of a hurricane or other disaster," said Miller.
The studios and tower will allow WPLG to meet new digital broadcast standards set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). To accommodate ongoing technological enhancements, the new facility will include multiple data centers as well as easy-access flooring throughout the building.
WPLG is owned and operated by Post-Newsweek Stations, a division of The Washington Post. REES Associates, Inc., a Dallas-based architecture firm with a broadcast division, is designing the new facility.
Miller's specialized team has also built sophisticated mission-critical projects including the NBC6 (Channel 6) all digital broadcast facility in Miramar and the Airbus flight simulation training facility in Miami.
