New Orthopaedic Institute Underway for Holy Cross Hospital
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., October 15, 2008 - Working directly above an active Veterans Administration (VA) clinic, Miller Construction Company is completing the Holy Cross Orthopaedic Institute at the Holy Cross HealthPlex campus on Dixie Highway in Fort Lauderdale.
"We have been working after-hour and weekend shifts to minimize any impact on the clinic," said Wayne Hannaka, Miller project executive, "and we expect to have this fast-track project operational in November."
Miller Healthcare Services, the program management arm of the company, helped coordinate the new second-floor orthopaedic facility, which will include a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) extremity scanner for diagnosing hand, arm or leg problems, along with digital x-rays and a "casting" room for treating broken bones. There will also be 32 examination rooms, 20 physician offices and support areas for nurses and staff.
Miller has added two elevators and impact glass to the second-floor facility, which was an empty shell prior to this tenant build-out. "We are also enhancing the front entry to the building with an attractive ‘cube' feature," Hannaka said.
Patients in the Holy Cross Orthopaedic Institute reception area will be able to look down into the first-floor entry through full-height glass partitions. There will be comfortable chairs and tables in the reception lobby, with a coffee area off to the side. "It's a warm and hospitable facility," added Hannaka, "carefully designed to meet the needs of orthopaedic patients."
